The presentation introduces complexity theory as a methodological approach for understanding complex systems. It explores how complexity thinking shifts research from seeking linear causation to engaging with patterns of interaction, self-organisation, and emergence. Drawing on the Health Research Council–funded project ‘Atawhai’ as a practical example, it illustrates how embracing uncertainty and relational responsiveness can generate richer, more grounded insights into real-world change.
