The Centre for Asia Pacific Refugee Studies - Tāwharau Whakaumu (CAPRS) envisions a future where forcibly displaced people are represented, respected and supported, and meaningfully engaged in research, policy and programming that impact their lives. CAPRS was established in 2020 as a research centre at Waipapa Taumata Rau, the University of Auckland.

This presentation will highlight the vital role of ethnic communities in preventing family and sexual violence in Aotearoa New Zealand. Community leaders from Latin American, African, and Southeast Asian communities will share grassroots prevention experiences, successes, and challenges.
Dr Juanita Rojas will also reflect on her PhD research on intimate partner violence prevention within Latin American communities, addressing policy gaps and the importance of community-led approaches.
Join to explore how ethnic communities are shaping inclusive and effective prevention models and driving transformative policy change in Aotearoa.
