New report on data collection and evidence on gender-based violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC)

UN Women has published Measuring gender-based violence: Data collection and evidence on violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (2025). This report seeks to address knowledge gaps in the scale and manifestations of violence perpetrated with the intent to punish those who are perceived as defying dominant gender and/or sexual norms and narratives. It argues for and provides solutions to enable a greater global capacity to collect comprehensive, disaggregated, and inclusive data to fill this gap.
