The New Zealand Police have conducted an initial review of literature on assessing risk within the context of family violence.

This review outlines:

  • the approaches and tools used in family violence risk assessment
  • the most common risk factors for future violence
  • what is known about the effectiveness of the different tools at predicting future violence.

The review also sets out what the research says about the use of risk assessment in practice, especially by Police, and the implications for effective risk management.

More information, including the full review is available in online at this link.
